On October 6th , the Pearson Centre held a dinner to honour Hon David Peterson, the 20th Premier of Ontario who celebrated 40 years since becoming Premier and 50 years since being elected.
A crowd of 200 people gathered to listen to renowned journalist and author Steve Paikin lead a fireside chat with David Peterson. The former Premier was funny and inspiring as he shared stories of his dad, Clarence, and the work ethic and values he instilled in all three Peterson boys from a young age. He talked about the accomplishments of the Peterson government, while commenting that people remember the loss but not the truly impactful achievements of his government. The Blue Box Program was developed by Peterson’s Environment Minister, Jim Bradley, and it was the first of its kind in the world. Today no one remembers that the blue box got its start in Ontario! He also expressed his deepest regret was the failure of the Meech Lake Accord and the impact that had on Quebec and the country. He talked about his love for his wife, Shelley, and his family, and gratitude to those who served with him in cabinet.
