Mixed review: how Canada is viewed abroad
By Sergio Marchi
From Speech to the Canadian Club of Geneva
We took pride in the roles that we could and did play, in an effort to make the world a better place. We excelled as bridge builders; as neutral players in crisis situations; as proponents of creative policy solutions; as honest brokers. These were constructive diplomatic and political roles. Again, they built upon the very values that underwrite Canada, and other nations came to depend on them. That has now changed, and we have begun to cede this firm, high ground.
