Andrew Cardozo moves on to the Senate
By Dr. Karen Mock
Transition at Pearson (November 2022)
Dear Friends and Supporters of the Pearson Centre,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted to wish Andrew Cardozo congratulations and the very best as he assumes his new role in the Senate of Canada. As you may already know that he was recently appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and was sworn in last week.
I believe the prestigious appointment recognizes Andrew’s many years of work in founding the Pearson Centre, and also his previous outstanding work in diversity and at the CRTC. As Andrew himself noted in a recent communication, the Senate is like the penultimate think tank – with voting rights. I am sure you will agree with me that Andrew will do well, as he continues to pursue bold ideas in the Senate of Canada. His appointment also reflects well on the growing recognition of the work of the Pearson Centre.
The Board of Directors has appointed Sharon Fernandez as Director of Operations to manage the Centre during the transition period ahead. Sharon has an extensive background in government and non-governmental roles in the arts and human rights fields and has worked on a part-time basis with the Pearson Centre since its inception, coordinating events and researching some key economic and social policy issues. We are in the process of planning our search for Andrew’s replacement as President and CEO.
I am pleased to report that the Pearson Centre has a strong Board and a robust program planned for months ahead as we continue to address these challenging times in the economy, health care and social cohesion. We are grateful for your ongoing interest and support and will keep you informed. The need for a strong progressive think tank is more important than ever.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Karen R. Mock, C.M.
Chair, Pearson Centre for Progressive Policy
