Online Citizen Engagement
Thursday, June 25, 2020 | 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

COVID-19 has allowed for so many in our society to recognize the abilities of digital technology and what it means to gather in our society. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person meetings, roundtable, rallies and even protests have all been taken online. As we move beyond this pandemic, what is there that we can learn from these changes in approach? Has this been a turning point in our digital society? And how can we best engage on these platforms so we can share ideas, build consensus and advance movements? Join us for a discussion on the digital world as we explore what there is beyond Zoom and what it means for our post-COVID future.

Infrastructure and Economic Recovery feat. Hon. Catherine McKenna
Tuesday, July 14, 2020 | 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Just as government investments have driven the economy through the COVID-19 pandemic, the scale, scope, and types of economic stimulus that will be included in Canada’s economic recovery will have immense impacts on Canada’s economic future. Join us for a discussion with Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Hon. Catherine McKenna, as we consider how infrastructure can play a role in Canada’s economic recovery. Will Canada need a new Marshall Plan? And how can government centre recovery objectives with issues such as environmental sustainability and gender equity?

Hon. Catherine McKenna
Minister of Infrastructure and Communities;
MP for Ottawa Centre

Racism in Canada: Covid and Beyond
Friday, June 12, 2020 | 2:00 PM to 3:15 PM

COVID-19 has highlighted the presence of systemic racism in Canada. We have learned more about the high proportion of racialized people and new immigrants who work in the health care and seniors care system who are precarious workers, and on the front lines of Covid. We have seen Asian-Canadians subjected to racial abuse and violence, and we have seen more about anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism, systemic and overt, pervading many aspects of our society. We have become more aware of the vulnerability to Covid of communities such as Indigenous people, on and off reserve. Rather than hide from our problems, this is the time to lay them bare and address them. This panel will bring together various perspectives to the discussion and the webinar will highlight some of the problems we face and focus on solutions.

THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF THE FUTURE

Monday, May 11; 2:00 to 2:45 pm ET

COVID -19 has highlighted for all, the tremendous value of government and the public service in all orders of government. The federal government and public service have pivoted at high speed to design and deliver major new programs. With the workplace restrictions, public servants have all had to change how they work, as most are now working remotely, while still delivering the service required of them.

– What does this mean for the short term and the long term of government?
– How does this change what is expected and what can be done by the public service of the future?
– How do we attract the next generation of public servants?

Panelists:

Debi Daviau, President, Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada

Michael Wernick, Former Clerk of the Privy Council

Lynda Tarras, Former Deputy Minister and Head, Public Service Agency, British Columbia
