PEI & ALBERTA ELECTION LESSONS

PEI & ALBERTA ELECTION LESSONS

LESSONS FROM PEI & ALBERTA ELECTIONS:
(Discussion @ the Pearson Centre “day-after” briefing on March 8, 2015; Panel: Hon. Don Boudria (former MP and Minister), Michele Austin (Summa Strategies), Doug Anderson (Earnscliffe Strategy) and Sen. Percy Downe from Charlottetown.)

PEI’s new focus with Lib Wade McLaughlin will be on diversifying economy – Premier’s major interest; he is the first openly gay premier on the Island, first Green MLA elected, no NDP, PCs elected opposition but leader does not win his seat.

In ALBERTA all the arrogance caught up with the PCs. NDP’s Rachel Notley who distanced her party from the federal NDP, ran on a moderate progressive and very positive platform(Discussion @ the Pearson Centre “day-after” briefing on March 8, 2015; Panel: Hon. Don Boudria, Michele Austin, Doug Anderson and Sen. Percy Downe.) Liberals blow it by postponing their leadership convention till after the election and going into an election with an interim leader who is a former leader – the articulate David Swann, who had announced he would not stay long after many years in public life.
